Aaron Portzline at the Columbus Dispatch reports that all signs point to Blue Jackets left winger Raffi Torres being traded to a playoff contender. He adds that Washington, Pittsburgh and the Rangers are said to be interested.
Torres, who is in the final year of his contract that pays him $2.5 million this season, has 16 goals and 10 assists this year.
...Torres had a few 20 goal seasons after being traded from the Islanders to Edmonton, but hasn't matched that since going to the Blue Jackets.
...not really sure why the Rangers would be interested unless Columbus is willing to take Rozsival, Redden or Drury back.

Not interested at all unless they can unload Redden or Rozi. Dru's contract may suck, but Im not ready to let him go... mostly because of the hometown connection I have with him, haha.
Redden needs to go first, then Rozi, then Dru... at least in my opinion
I really like Torres' style of play for a 3rd liner. He has a ton of energy and often looks like a fast moving pinball out there, crashing into everything in sight. If we can get rid of one of the "albatross twins" I'm all for picking up this guy for the rest of the season.
QUESTION: How do you feel abou this: Dubinsky, Giradi, and a first rounder for Kovalchuk. Good, bad? Would either team go for it? The Rangers have a few good young d-men waiting in the wings.
I want nothing to do with Kovalchuk as he will likely end up a rental and or cost WAY too much $$ if they sign him to a contract... we already have enough bad contracts. No need to add another one
There are possibilities that the Rangers may have Redden in Hartford and bring up Heiekken being he is Finnish and will be a big body in front of the net. This will not be the same old Ranger Team after all.
Kovalchuk, even spending a lot on him, is hardly a 'bad contract.' Dude is a machine.
... except for the fact that he ties up even more money that you then cant spend on the youth and have 1, maybe 1.5 lines that can score consistently.

Kovalchuk is only 26! If they spend on him, they are spending on youth. He's only a year older than Gilroy! He's a once-in-a-decade type of player and the Rangers don't have anyone close to his talent in their development system (Grachev included). If they have a chance to get him, they should go for it. Add him to a second line, and the Rangers have two excellent scoring lines with Gaborik as 1 and Kovalchuk as 1A. That's about as good a one-two punch as there is in the league! On par with Cindy Crosby and Malkin, Ovie and Semin...
