why did we get him if we just got prust and already have voros? that means more guys who have scoring potential have to be scratched. is this a move before a big trade after the freeze sending away one of these guys?

Voros is terrible. No one is afraid of him.

Yeah I think you can officially say that Voros is not going to touch the ice for the rest of the season. And Andrew who are these mystery players with scoring potential you speak of?

I like what Jody Shelly brings from a toughness aspect. We now have someone who actually LIKES to hit and is big enough to do it.

The problem is… he wont get much playtime on the 4th line.

... but hes still better than brashear (and cheaper).

With the aquisition of Prust and Shelley, it may spell the end of Voros time as a Ranger as well.

scoring potential being lisin or anisimov, guys who will only get better with time, and guys who can and have put it in the net as opposed to just tough guys who play 3 minutes a game

Ha! Mystery players.

I like Orr's toughness and always said we should've kept him, but you gotta respect Shelley if he can take a couple pokes from Orr like that (any one of which would have crumpled Voros), then level Orr with a monster right (no easy task, either), then skate to the box with all the emotion of someone waiting in line at the bank. Nice vid, NYRFan.

I love to see what would happen if this guy really gets emotional.

andrew - that would be fine if any of those guys actually DID put it in the net. Ask yourself, what is the value of unrealized potential. Maybe some of these brutes can get the teams we play to skate with a little more fear (or any fear at all) against the guys we have who can actually score.

He is a MONSTER.

Can we find out if he'll play tonight? It may persuade me to watch if Gaborik is out.

I'm with andrew.... ok Jody Shelley is a good fighter. Do you win games because you win a fight? No. So who cares if you have a good fighter or not. All fighting does is get fans into the game and gets your team up. Regardless of whether you get knocked out or knock the other guy out, those two things are still happening. But we have good young guys who have (dare I say "a lot of") potential to be top 6 forwards. Grachev, Anisimov, Corey Locke, Lisin, Paranteau.

And what a bad trade for the Sharks. You have a skilled team and you're getting rid of a tough guy who would be good for the playoffs. He's in the last year of his contract and they only get a 6th round pick for him. So basically, they get nothing.

Overall, I just don't understand this trade for both sides. Way to go Sather. Another memorable one.

I agree, not a game-breaker, but I would rather see more grit for the Rangers. Not more fights, necessarily, but just make it a bit more difficult to play against. I'm getting frustrated with all this "scoring potential" getting smothered by the in-yo-face grinding that we've seen totally shut the rangers down. If they have space, they can score bunches, bu it's too easy to take away the space. BTW, Lundquist was drafted in the 7th round, so maybe not nothing. ESPN reporting it is conditional pick. I wonder if they are considering re-signing him.

Have you been watching the RAngers this year??
They are bullied around the ice every game..With a heavyweight enforcer, it keeps the other teams tough guys from running your skilled players into the boards whenever they fill like..This will create space and chances for them..

As far as Lisin and Anisimov go....They have had plenty of chances to prove they belong in the lineup...In fact Anisimov has played in every game this year(unless hurt) and what has he shown...
As far as Lisin goes, (Joe and Sam) said it during the Nashville game, that if Lisin could ever find his last 2 strides he would be a dangerous scorer...The fact is he continues to lose control of the puck, miss his shot...
Im not saying Shelley s the key to the cup, but heavyweight enforcers are needed, especially in the East...but lets not also pretend that this team is filled with offensive talent either.
