Predators 2, Rangers 1

The New York Rangers (26-27-7) lost to the Nashville Predators (32-22-5) by the score of 2-1, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.

...i think we all got a glimpse of what life would have been like had the Rangers not signed Gaborik. And you know what I don't like it.

...sadly, the only way the Rangers can score without Gaborik is with a two-man advantage. Actually, they didn't play too badly offensively (38 shots), unfortunately, Dan Ellis came to play tonight.

...first real rookie mistake from Del Zotto, so I can't kill the kid. Hopefully, he learns from this and moves on.

...i was really disappointed in the play of Dubinsky and Callahan. On a night when the Rangers needed players to step-up they were non-existent.

...Lundqvist probably can't wait until the Olympics so he can play in front of a team that actually scores.

...Rozsival's failed clear on the game winner pretty much summed up his season.

...two more games until the Olympic break starting Friday night in Pittsburgh. If they lose both games I think it's fire sale time.

Can't blame Roszival on the clear, that was bad luck, but yeah I guess bad has just been his general theme after filling Malik's shoes once he left. How about that line of Drury-Anisimov-Dubinsky towards the end? Three natural centers on the same line. When does the blame start coming down on Torts?

1 goal - that's the best we can do? 1 cheap goal on a play that could just have easily been called dead. It's getting really painful to watch.

1 goal maybe 2 a night. we should be selling players at the trade deadline not looking to rent.

Is Avery still part of this team? He looks like he's given up.....

man do we scrap the entire team again like after Jager and try to build around the young players? I'm at a complete loss here....

Everyone is always saying a team needs to be built from young players. This is good and truewhen the team has GREAT, young talent. The Rangers dont have young caliber players such as Ovechkin, Malkin, Crosby, Kane, Toews, Koptitar, Stamkos ect.... The Rangers are going to suck for a few years. The Rangers let Zherdev and Antropov walk. I knew this was going to hurt the team because they didnt sign anyone else to fill those shoes. Dubi and Cally are not 1st or 2nd line players. I know Dubi would be a strong 3rd line center and maybe Cally could squeeze onto the 2nd line and thats all they will ever be. So it is a great thing to build around young players but they must be talented. Since Rangers dont have that this offseason they need to make a lot of moves and try to sign young talent.

'Theking' you're making my point for me. maybe we keep Gaborik and build a team with the young players we have now - sell off all the dead weight we can and develop new talent. Del Zotto and Stall can become top tier defensemen. I don't disagree with your assement of Dubinski or Cally but at least they're trying every shift to make a difference

I don't mind if we miss the playoffs for 2 -3 years so long as we're heading in the right direction.

All Sather is capable of doing is renting players like Jokinin in an attempt to make the first round at the expense of a longer term goal - a truly competitive team capable of winning a cup.

Let's put the theory of 'more shot's to bed. If you are getting a ton of shots off, it doesn't mean you are doing well offensively. In fact, it seems like teams that get off 35 shots are losing.

That's because instead of cycling and making the right play, they are blindly shooting from the blueline and bad angles.

What matters is scoring chances.

JustDance I agree with you all the way. I remember in my youth travel ice hockey days. I had a couple of coaches that just wanted everyone to shoot. As soon as you cross the blue line shoot. I stuck with the same linemates year to year when I got older and we all hated this style. It is very basic. It relies way too much on luck. I always thought that philosophy was just poor hockey knowledge and the people that just yell shoot shoot doesnt know that much about the game. My line cycled the hell out of the puck looking for the perfect set up and didnt just fire from bad angles. I also hate when everyone is yelling shoot shoot on the powerplay. It just shows that these idiots have never played hockey. When your on the ice it is so hard to see an opening to shoot the puck. You cant just take a bad shot that will be blocked and lose possesion. In the nhl everyone is willing to block so it must be even harder to get it through than when I played. Its embarrassing to see the Rangers with this house league style of hockey just shoot from everywhere but I think Torts knows we dont have the passing and skilled players like Caps, Devils, and Pens to make those beautiful passing plays that has high chances of scoring. So Rangers rely on lucky bounces and lucky goals. I always say quality not quantity. Pathetic.
