Cheechoo Placed on Waivers

TSN is reporting that the Ottawa Senators have placed RW Jonathan Cheechoo on waivers today.

Cheechoo, who has another year on his contract that pays him $3 million per, has just 5g and 9a on the season. He had 165 goals and 126 assists in six seasons with San Jose, including a 56-goal season in 2005-06.

Cheechoo was acquired in the Dany Heatley trade this summer from San Jose.

...anyone willing to take a risk on a former 56-goal scorer? If this was the final year of his contract I'd be willing to give him a chance, but with another year that's a big risk.

...if the Rangers send both Brashear and Voros down to Hartford there should be enough $ for Cheechoo this season. However with Brashear's $ to reappear against the cap next season, Sather would have to get creative.

Former Ranger first round pick Jamie Lundmark was also waived by Calgary today.

Kotalik part Deux?

Not really, actually. When we signed Kotalik, we knew what we were getting. and he actually didn't deliver. With Cheechoo, you're taking a risk on a guy who has been in rapid decline for 3 straight years and hoping for some kind of miraculous turnaround in his game. there's no way that'll happen. he stopped scoring while playing alongside the best passing center in the game, J Thornton.
