Renney: 1st Line Trying to Manufacture Too Much

It's no secret that the first line has struggled since the Rangers returned from Prague (0 goals, 4 assists in 3 games).

They performed too well against Tampa to think its a lack of chemistry, so most likely Naslund, Gomez and Drury are just pressing. I wouldn't endorse splitting them up just yet, but another week of unproductive outings might make it necessary.

Tom Renney had this to say to Steve Zipay at Blue Notes on the line's struggles...

"Trying to manufacture a little too much, trying to set up the perfect goal," said Renney. "These guys want badly to make a difference in the game and they've got to understand that each shift is a process in itself. It'll come."

...the success of the Voros-Dubinsky-Zherdev line and a 5-0 record has helped mask the first line's below average play. We can't expect the torrid play of the second line to last so we're going to need another line to start producing, beginning with our Captain and two assistants on the first line.
