Stars 2, Rangers 1

The New York Rangers (6-2-1) were defeated by the Dallas Stars (2-3-1) 2-1 tonight. For a recap and box score go to newyorkrangers.com.

...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Is the game over yet? Who won? Wow was that boring. You could hear a pin drop in the Garden tonight the crowd was so out of it. You figured with Avery in town there would have been more fireworks.

...to the game. Obviously it came down to the Rangers not being able to do two things 1) get through the neutral zone and 2) hit the net. You have to blame the coaching staff for not putting together a strategy to counter what the Stars were doing. As for the shooting woes, I guess it was just one of those nights.

...thought Naslund's goal was going to ignite him. But for the exception of maybe two plays he was a no show for the rest of the night.

...speaking of no shows. Did the Stars leave Avery in Dallas? Except for jawing with Lundqvist and Dubinsky early he was a non-factor in the game. Although after the game he was a complete factor. When asked by Stan Fischler about Steve Valiquette's recent comments on Avery being a deterrent in the Rangers lockeroom last year, Avery called Valiquette a minor league player who needs to say things like that so he can get in the paper. There's the Sean we know and love.

...some good chemistry right now for the Dawes-Gomez-Callahan line. For the first time since he's been here Gomez is playing with wingers who can keep up with him and get open. Unfortunately, neither Dawes or Callahan could hit the ocean from a pier tonight.

...the problem now is that with three lines showing some sort of chemistry it makes it that much harder to break up Drury and Naslund which obviously is not working.

...Rissmiller probably cemented his place in the press box for the immediate future with a nothing effort. Paging Dan Fritsche.

...Rangers get a much needed break as they don't play again until Friday when they visit Fedor Tyutin, Christian Backman and the Columbus Blue Jackets.

It was like there was a wall on the offensive zone blueline. Rangers kept getting trapped...also I noticed that the D were jumping in a lot, almost too much?

Gomez, Dawes, Callahan look great together all three are super fast and Dawes/Callahan can obviously keep up with Gomez's coast-to-coast circlefest—they can get open.
