Rangers 1, Maple Leafs 0, SO

The New York Rangers (6-1-0) defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs (1-1-2) by the score of 1-0 in a shootout, tonight. For recap and box score go to newyorkrangers.com.

...Valiquette proved tonight that he could handle 20-25 starts this season. Not a lot of shots, but many difficult chances. Outstanding job. Loving the "Vali" chant.

...i'll admit it. I wasn't happy with the choice of Sjostrom to take the third shot in the shootout. That was until he buried it. I'll never doubt you again Sjo.

...obviously the Rangers best line this season has been the Voros-Dubinsky-Zherdev line, but second best by far has been the fourth line. Another solid game from those guys. Not sure if there's an award for most improved player in the NHL, but Orr is the early season favorite. It's amazing how much of a better skater he is this year.

...whatever funk the Rangers were in they definitely snapped out of it in the third period. If not for Toskala and a couple of pipes we would have run away with this game in the third. Although I was waiting for Toronto to bury one late after the Rangers threw everything but the kitchen sink at Toskala and couldn't score.

...thought Fritsche and Dawes earned themselves a spot in the line-up tomorrow. Especially Fritsche who played a very aggressive game and had a number of scoring opportunities.

...now to the bad. The 'Perry Pern Watch' is officially on as we've gone 0-12 on the power play in the last two games.

...another lost night for Naslund. He might be a part of the third line carousel if he keeps this up.

...Rangers better come out tomorrow like they did in the third period tonight or they will get run over by the defending Champion Red Wings.

What happened to their zest? The first 5 games were played with such vengence and pep but the game against Buff. was just kind of lacking in energy. Maybe because the boys were tired but their lack of "passion" as Renny puts it, kind of followed them into the first 2 periods of tonights game. Hopefully we will be kicking some ass tomorrow against the red wings. I dont know if anyone else is noticing or even has an opinion on this but where is Drury and his captain leadership? I dont think as a captain he has stepped it up enough! I mean by now Jagr would have at least scored once or even twice! Drury was a good player last year, I dont know why he hasn't shined yet so far this season! Anyway I wish all the best of luck to the boys this 08-09 season! LETS GO RANGERS!!!!!

Couldn't agree more. You can just tell watching the game that they don't have that extra bounce they had in the first 5 games. I'm assuming the heavy early season schedule has a lot to do with it.
