As noted on this blog the other day (see here), the Tampa Bay Lightning have recently expressed interest in signing former Ranger Marek Malik. Well it became official yesterday as, according to TSN, Malik signed a one-year contract worth a pro-rated $1.2-million for the 2008-2009 season.
...looks like a 0-2-1 start for Tampa has them in panic mode. Because you can't call signing Malik anything but a panic move.
...from what I've read Tampa has a stable of young defensemen and needed a veteran presence. Which Malik obviously displayed last year when he fought a teammate in practice (Sean Avery) in addition to storming out into the cold Edmonton night when told he was a healthy scratch.
