Lottery & Free Agents

Steve Zipay at Blue Notes reports that with 87 points the Rangers will most likely be drafting 10th (unless they win the lottery a 2.1% chance).

This would be their highest selection since 2004, when with the sixth overall pick, they drafted goaltender Al Montoya.

...oops. Hopefully the Rangers do a better job drafting this time around.

Zipay also lists the Rangers impending free agents...

Unrestricted Free Agents: (Age as of July 1; 2009-10 Salary)
Olli Jokinen, C; 32, $5.5 million
Vaclav Prospal, LW, 35, $1.1 million
Alex Auld, G, 29, $1 million
Jody Shelley, RW, 34, $725,000
P.A. Parenteau, RW, 27, $500,000
Anders Eriksson, D, 35, $600,000
Corey Potter, D, 26, $550,000

Restricted Free Agents:
Marc Staal, D, 23, $765,000
Dan Girardi, D, 26, $1.6 million
Erik Christensen, C, 26, $750,000
Brandon Prust, LW, 26, $525,000
Enver Lisin, RW, 24, $790,000
Dane Byers, LW, 24, $500,000
Ilkka Heikkinen, D, 25, $875,000

...doubt it will happen, but I'd like to see everyone of them re-signed but Jokinen. Unless they can get Jokinen real cheap.

...i was leaning against the Rangers re-signing Girardi, but he really showed me something this last week.

I agree. I can live with these UFAs being resigned minus Jokinen...

No on Lisin - at that's my view. Torts (who I think will be back) doesn't trust him (maybe rightfully so), so what good is he? Trade him to a team that will play him.

no on lisin also and I think not making the playoffs may make putting redden in hartford an easier pill to swallow for Dolan. Re-up Staal and Girardi (maybe get Volchenkov instead of Girardi), don't sign Jokinen back and maybe we can go after Kovy for a reasonable # (nothing above 8 mil). I think christensen could center kovy/gabby and PA could stay with the team etc. Move rozy with some D prospects if you can

I wouldn't mind everyone but lisin and jokinen resigned. Olli has to be gone he is not worth the amount hes paid in any way. Maybe with the core of the team coming back next year they can develop better chemistry to score some more goals and not leave it all up to hank every game

i dont know how you can say that you actually thought about not resigning girardi. he was in the top 5 blocked shots. he has heart too,and is a good team guy
