Who Would Columbus Even Want?

After another Ranger loss the Daily News' John Dellapina wonders who the Blue Jackets would even want from the Rangers in a trade...

"A glass partition separated Rangers GM Glen Sather's box from the three Columbus Blue Jackets scouts seated in the press box last night.

Had they been sitting together, Sather probably would have had no trouble convincing the Columbus bird dogs that the Rangers need to make a trade. Getting them to convince Columbus GM Scott Howson that any Ranger is worth acquiring would have been a tougher sell."

....Dellapina brings up a good point here. Who would another team want on the Rangers? Malik? Prucha? Dawes? Everyone is demanding a trade to turn this around, but to do that we need to have players other teams actually want. Even if we can get someone to take one of these players, do you actually think we'd get some young stud puck moving defenseman in return. Probably not.

...the only way we get anything of value in return is if we offer Dubinsky, which Sather better not do, or one of our veterans (i.e. Shanahan, Straka or Jagr) to a team looking to bolster their lineup for the playoffs. And if we're looking to unload veterans, we've probably given up on the season.

I say trade them all.

8 points separates 1st from last place in this division. Still no need to panic. However if Montoya has any trade value for a proven scorer, thats not over the hill. the rangers should trade him now. Lundquist and montoya will never be 1 and 2 on this team.

With the way Lundqvist is playing you might want to hold on to him.

If we trade Shanny, does the team he finishes the season with have to cover his bonuses or do we? It would be a good way to duck out on $1.8 million if he is planning on hanging them up after this year. I love the guy in red, white, and blue, but the more cap space we free up now, the easier our off-season will be, considering we only have about 6 guys locked in for next year.

It might depend on the terms of the deal. Similar to the trade we made with Washington for Jagr where they picked up a large portion of his salary.

We need to trade for some players with heart and balls. Our goalie may be playing poor and our coach is clueless, but the rest of the team need to play with a lot more heart.
