Last night the New York Rangers (23-21-6) defeated the Atlanta Thrashers (23-25-3) by a score of 4-0. Jaromir Jagr scored and had two assists on a newly created line, and defenseman Fedor Tyutin had a career-high three assists. Sean Avery and Brandon Dubinsky scored first-period goals, Martin Straka added one in the second, and Jagr finished the surge in the third to provide plenty of offense for Henrik Lundqvist. Lundqvist stopped 14 shots in earning his seventh shutout and 14th in three NHL seasons. For a full recap go to Yahoo! Sports.
...not sure what Renney said to those guys but that was as complete a win as you could ask for. The next step will be for them to carry this play into the rest of the season.
...the new lines, for one night at least, really seemed to click. To me, putting Avery on a line with Jagr was probably the best move that Renney made. Hopefully, Avery will attract a lot of attention with his physical play in front of the net opening up the slot for Jagr.
...Shanahan looked like a man possessed last night. While he didn't have a point he had five shots on goal and seemed to have an extra bounce to his step. He must have heard all the talk of him being a step slower this year.
...how great has Dubinsky been lately. Three goals in the last four games. While the rest of the team has been floundering, Dubinsky has really stepped up his game. His goal last night was a thing of beauty.
...how much tough luck can Drury have this year? He gets robbed on the door step, hits the crossbar and his deflection just barely gets stopped by Lehtonen. Keep your head up Chris it'll come.
...the only negative was the nightly failure of the power play. After going 0-5 last night, they are now 2 for their last 33.
