The featured game in this week’s NHL Six Pack slate sticks out like a sore thumb -- Islanders at Rangers. In fact, fans will not only get to witness this always intense rivalry once, but twice, on Tuesday and Thursday.
It’s a matchup that, to this day, still excites Islanders legends Bob Nystrom, Bryan Trottier and Ken Morrow.
"The rivalry was really fan-generated because they were the ones either cheering uncontrollably or throwing fish at us,’’ Nystrom told NHL.com. "We had to win this game and that was the bottom line. And, usually, if we did win the game we usually lost to the team next on our schedule.’’
"The funny thing is, a player would come to us from another team, or like myself, come to the Islanders and have no feelings whatsoever about the Rangers,’’ Morrow said. "But within a few days, the hatred is there. It’s funny how that works, but that’s how it was.’’
...what's up with quotes only from ex-Islanders? C'mon NHL.com, you've got to give us both sides of the rivalry. Bad job reporting.
