A Rain Cloud on a Sunny Day

Sam Weinman at The Rangers Report discusses the Ranger power play woes...

"Are more drastic changes needed? Put it another way: could it really hurt? Isn’t Ryan Callahan’s nose for the net worth trying out up front? Might—and brace yourself for this one—a revitalized Marek Malik be a more sensible option at the point than a clearly tentative Backman?"

...while I agree with Weinman that putting Callahan on the power play would be a great idea, I think he's been smokin' some of the funny stuff when he says Malik should be an option. While Backman should be sent to the press box as soon as Mara's ready to return, he is a much better option than Malik. Backman actually had a nice rip from the point during a late power play that Brodeur had to make a tough save on.

...since we're on the power play. What is up with Renney putting out Girardi and Tyutin to start the third period on the power play. We need a goal, you have all period to devise a plan on how to score and you put out Girardi and Tyutin? Suffice to say, we didn't score.

I'd rather see anyone other than Tyutin. He love his game butt he doesn't belong on the power play.
