More Love For Dawes

I didn't have time to post this yesterday, but Arthur Staple at Newsday had a nice article on Nigel Dawes. And Dawes rewards Staple by scoring the game winner...

"It was his ninth trip between Hartford and New York over two seasons, a fairly common occurrence for young players who don't have to pass through waivers in the salary-cap era of the NHL. That just adds another burden to anyone trying to stick with the big club.

Two months ago, Dawes was determined to stick. And he found his spot, on a line with Brendan Shanahan and Scott Gomez; in the 24 games since his last recall, Dawes has six goals and 12 assists. The (generously listed) 5-9 Dawes uses his speed as his best weapon, but his passing and play-making are underrated."

...I pretty much have to take credit for discovering Nigel Dawes. Just like a friend of mine, a scout for the New York Jets, discovered Jonathan Vilma.
