Lundqvist in Goal, Backman on Power Play

John Dellapina at The Blueshirts Blog reports...

"Henrik Lundqvist starts for a second straight night tonight against Tampa Bay...

...while Renney indulged a question about deploying rookie Marc Staal on the power play following Friday night’s game, the blueliner he’s more apt to use in place of Fedor Tyutin is Christian Backman.

While the recent acquisition from St. Louis has had his own-zone adventures ever since being acquired Feb. 26, he has been practicing with Dan Girardi on the power play recently. And Renney is more comfortable with the veteran’s ability to make quick plays and uncork shots from the point than the lanky Staal, who has been perhaps the Rangers’ best defenseman in the defensive zone."

...looks like I'm 1 for 2 in my goalie picks this weekend. Can't blame Renney for not wanting to go with his backup when two important points are out there for the taking.

...while Backman has been an adventure in the defensive zone, I think he's shown enough on the offensive end to warrant a spot on one of the power play units.
