Last night the New York Rangers (37-26-9) were defeated by the Tampa Bay Lightning (29-35-8) 3-0. Mike Smith made 20 saves to lead the Lightning past the Rangers 3-0 on Saturday night. Henrik Lundqvist made 27 saves for the Rangers, who have lost two in a row in regulation after recording at least one point in 13 consecutive games (10-0-3). New York, third in the Atlantic Division, dropped seven points behind New Jersey, which beat Colorado 4-2. The Rangers are sixth in the Eastern Conference but only four points ahead of ninth-place Buffalo, the first team below the postseason cutoff. New York lost 3-2 at Florida on Friday. Tampa Bay got goals from Alexandre Picard, Martin St. Louis and Michel Ouellet. The Lightning, last in the Eastern Conference, have won three straight. It took the Rangers 14 minutes to record their first shot of the second period. They were outshot 16-4 during the frame. For a full recap go to Yahoo! Sports.
...thankfully I didn't get to watch much if any of the game last night. From what I've read on Ranger message boards last night could have been one of the worst efforts all year.
...the Rangers had to get two points minimum this weekend. Instead, they only scored two goals. This weekend was like a flash back to earlier this season.
...I guess my statement a few days ago that the Rangers were playing for seeding was dead wrong as the Rangers are only four points ahead of the 9th place Sabres.
...it doesn't get easier as its Atlantic Division teams from here on in starting with the Crosbyless Penguins on Tuesday.
