Smart Move By Renney to Stay With Lundy

Jay Greenberg at the New York Post gives Tom Renney props for sticking with Henrik Lundqvist last night...

"Teams are at their confident best when their franchise goalie is, too, which is why Nolan made a big mistake last night. It's why Renney, who knows he is going nowhere this spring without a fully confident Lundqvist, did not."

...Greenberg hits the nail on the head. It's real easy to fall in love with the backup, especially when he's playing well, and your number one is struggling. But Valiquette and Dubielewicz are backups for a reason. Renney knows that, which is why he made a very smart decision staying with Lundqvist when many fans and pundits were calling for Valiquette.

...by sticking with Lundqvist last night, Renney made a statement to Lundqvist, the team and the league, he's my guy and we're riding him all the way. Which should go along way in keeping Lundqvist's confidence high. Not sure where Lundqvist's confidence would have been if Vally would have started and won last night.
