Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants has this quote from Ryan McDonagh on making a decision to sign with the Rangers or head back to Wisconsin...
“I can’t say enough about how much fun it was out here, everybody was great,” the 6-1 McDonagh said. “This group of guys got pretty close over five days. I’ll take a few days over the weekend for July 4 and set it in stone early next week, meet with (Wisconsin) coach (Mike) Eaves and have a decision after that. I was kind of leaning one way for sure. Coming out of here having fun obviously helps the process. But I still want to go back and think things through.”
...get your McDonagh jerseys now this kid is signing next week.

Isn't he leaning to returning to school?
Gross said he didn't sound like someone who was planning on going back to Wisconsin.
The Hockey News described Mcdonagh as "absolutely ready to play"
kev...kinda wondering where youd slot him though? with staal (hopefull) being signed...id think girardi might be the odd man out? unless redden is shipped to the minors...or gilroy isnt around..
If,as he said,he"can’t say enough about how much fun it was out here"and that"This group of guys got pretty close over five days",and then says that "I was kind of leaning one way for sure" and that "Coming out of here having fun obviously helps the process"(the decision making process)then it seems obvious to me that he was originally leaning towards signing. If he was leaning towards returning to Wisconsin, having such a great experience here would not "help the process" but make it a more difficult one.
I'll be honest, as much as I am looking forward to McDonagh, who was scouted as a future number one defenseman who can play offense and defense, I am a little disgruntled by his recent behavior. It is very obnoxious for a 21 year old with NO pro hockey experience to be dragging out this process. The fact that he thinks he is the one driving this ship is a little more than frustrating. What he better learn quick is that NHL players have very little leverage from the day they are drafted until they are past RFA status, which he is not.
I can only assume what this kid is doing. It seems like he wants to go Pro but hates letting his school down. He will let them down easy next week and in person.
I think it's more a personal touch towards the program he is coming from and not so much thinking he is owed something towards the rangers.
DeLury, you are the biggest MUSH!!!!! he is now totally going back to school!!
Evan S,
As a college prospect, McD has some leverage. He could refuse to sign and end up a FA next year (see Van Ryn, and Blake Wheeler). While I hope he signs and think he should, it's his life and his career and it's the right thing for him to take his time and make a decision he's comfortable with. These kids aren't pieces of meat. It indicates some maturity that he's taking time and thinking it through.
