Update, 9:45 p.m.:
According to Adam Jahns at the Chicago Sun-Times Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman says Sharp isn't going anywhere.

Steve Zipay at Blue Notes gives us a list of possible options for the Rangers including Patrick Sharp, Brad Richards, Joe Thornton, Marc Savard.
Sharp has two years left at $3.9 million per, Richards has one year left at $7.8 million per, Thornton has one year left a $7.2 million per, and Savard has seven years left on his contract at just over $4 million per.
...we've gone over Savard and Richards today with the majority, I think, against both.
...as far as the other two Thornton is a great player, but too old and Rangers would, I'm assuming, have to give up a top prospect for a guy who could leave at the end of next year. Also affordability comes into question. I'd be much more into Sharp who is a 25-30 goal scorer, in his prime (29-years-old) and would look pretty sweet on a line with Gaborik. Also at $3.9 million, he will be very affordable with Redden down in Hartford.

I would love to have sharp on this team. Sharp Prospal Gaborik would be one very nice line =) he's a great player. Very worth the money.
After the Gange trade, I think Sharp for Sauer, a 3rd Round in 2011 and perhaps a lower prospect (rights), could get the deal done, problem is the 'Hawks are looking to unload cash and the Rangers are in NO position to take on cash. Don't really see it happening after the Boogaard and Prospal deals.
Andy, if they move Redden to Hartford (which I've thought all along they're not going to do), Sharp is very doable.
i would definetely be ok with sharp being added. nice low cap too for what he is. skeptical on if it will happen though, either way, not much is out there for us....no to all the guys in ufa, imo. we will just have to hope for the best and hope our young guys come thru with some goals!
Sharp FTW!
If Sather would not really say whether Redden would be put on waivers and sent to Hartford. Why do we act like he is there? "Has been discussed" does not mean crap. This Sather does not have the cajones to do this. Trust me.
sharp would be good to go for. but price would be higher than andy suggested.
chicago really got screwed this summer - with cup bonuses and some higher priced free agents lasdt few yrs costing them good young talent - guys like campbell, hossa and huet really cost them dearly.
LIJoe, sounds like the Rangers with Drury, Redden and Rozy.
Best sniper deal out there (points per dollar) ... SVATOS ...
Is it because putting Redden in Hartford is by far the smartest move that makes none of us believe Sather will do it? I can't stand Redden! He's like the John Maine of the Rangers with that crinkly brow and that whiney look all of the time, just go away!
kevin - except we don't have near the homegrown talent (3 yrs pro experience and more) that chicago has/or at least had. by the time we might have to worry about the homegrown guys salaries drury and rozy will be expired contracts and redden will be amnesty buyout in new cba or sent to ahl.
that is 1 small benefit to our abysmal record in drafting forwards from say 1994 to 2007 - again last 3 yrs too early to judge.
also huge difference between 2 nhl players in drury and rozy and 1 echl player in redden.
I don't think anything "official" can be done with Redden until the season starts - as far as dropping him to Hartford to get cap room.
I know this may sound like a crazy idea, but how about working on teamwork and chemistry instead of fantasy trades/signings?
What happened to Frolov?
How much more would a 29 year old with 2 years at $4MM a piece require?? Sharps not THAT good to warrant more than a 3rd and Sauer.
Frolov is just another Zherdev-just a little more expensive. I would stay away, Sharp would be a good trade if we could create the necessary cap room. It would depend on who wants to get Rozi with not much coming back in order to pull that one off, maybe just a prospect with Rozi could work. Tampa could use a decent dman and they have cap room with no decent prospects in the system.
sharp is a lot better than 3rd rd and sauer. they ahve 29 teams to choose from (well maybe not a natural rival like detroit). try at least a 2nd rd pick plus a guy like werek a much better prospect than the oft injured sauer.
2nd Rounder and a prospect better than Sauer...or a 2nd and Sauer??
at least a 2nd (quite possibly a 1st) and a prospect better than sauer such as werek. if not they have plenty of other teams to shop him too
The Flyers did not get very much out of Gange who is a similar player, and only 1 year older. I think you'd be overpaying and I wouldn't want him for that price tag. Would you??
@ joe, kinda gotta agree with andy on this one...everyone knows chicago has to unload players before the season starts, doubt theyll get much...and andys right by also looking at what the flyers got for gagne...they got fleeced but needed to move salary to fit zherdev and whoever else in...
that being said, i still wouldnt mind dealing a 2nd rounder and sauer for him...much rather a later pick but who cares?
we all need to remember that almost any trade we make in which we take on salary WILL spell the end of redden in new york...just depends on if that happens or not
:(
gagne had concussion problems. chi does not have to trade sharp they can send huet to minors and things like that. plus they have 28 teamsd to choose from. from what i know plenty of teams are interested in sharp. i did see a tweet that claims sharp will not be traded.
i would trade werek and a number 2 for sharp. but do not think chi will trade him.

Instead of trading for Sharp, I'd rather reserve the roster spot for a young player such as Grachev or Stepan. Sharp is a good player that would fit well with Gaborik but I don't see the rangers as a serious condender right now with or without Sharp.A trade for sharp or a player in the same tier would be ideal if the rangers were a serious contender.
war i see what you're saying but with or without sharp i do not want stepan on rangers to start season. he needs to develop. going from 40 games in college to 82 nhl games is insane and not good for his development. grachev needs prob another few mos of ahl development. he had a pretty bad season at hartford. both get 1st or 2nd line minutes, pp time etc against comparable players of other teams.
reason i said i'd go for sharp is more about yes to him and no to others fequently mentioend like richards or until today gagne. i could live with or without sharp realizing like you alluded to this team is not a contender this yr either way. but he is signed for a 2nd yr too so that could help a bit.
