Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants has this quote from Glen Sather on the trade...
“We liked Aaron’s attitude, he was a good team guy,” Rangers GM Glen Sather said. “But with some of the acquisitions we made, he just didn’t figure into it going forward. It’s another opportunity for Aaron to get another contract.
“Our philsophy is with any young guy that comes in and makes the team, we can move the older guys out if necessary,” Sather added when asked about the defense corps. “We’re not going to force feed any of these guys. We might have pushed (Matt) Gilroy too hard. We don’t want to hurt anybody’s confidence.”
...that last quote doesn't bod too well for McDonagh's chances of making the team out of training camp.
Update, 4:17 p.m.:
...ok after a good cry I'm ready to blog.
...i thought Voros brought a lot of heart and hard work to the Rangers. Two things that are usually lacking with the organization, so I will miss him. But there was no room for him on the roster and at best I thought he'd be an injury call up from Hartford this season.
...this move doesn't help with cap space as they actually take on $125,000. Not sure if the career -46 Eminger will be the 7th defenseman or headed to Hartford.
...if we were hoping for a bounce back season from Avery not sure shipping off his best friend on the team will help.

The Rangers tweet...
#NYR Breaking News: #NYRangers trade Aaron Voros & Ryan Hillier to @AnaheimDucks for Steve Eminger. Stay tuned for official press release
Andrew Gross at Rangers Rants says this is essentially a wash in terms of the salary cap: Voros 1-year, $1 million left, Eminger 1-year, $1.125 million to go.
...i'm too upset to blog right now.

I know the reports say they are going to match anything given to Staal but why would they overload their D-corps?????
overload the d corps? the 1st rd guy is going back to jrs. hartford lost sanguinetti and heikkinen and likely potter. and defense was a real weakness there with injuries. so if the rangers plan on carrying 7 demen they need at least 6 solid guys to staff the hartford roster to play there and for emergency callups in a couple of cases
I'm not entirely sure why you seem so broken up over Voros leaving. The guy may bring heart, but heart'll only get you so far - he's a human punching bag with very few redeeming features in terms of on-ice play - removing his salary for a similair one seems a smart move from Uncle Glen. I'm no Eminger fan, but he could be useful as a depth D-man whereas Voros had absolutely no future with the team.
