Raise you hand if you remember this time last year when Torts said "I can't wait to get a hold of Brandon Dubinsky, he doesn't realize he can be a 30+ goal scorer"?
I would have thought Torts would have gotten a hold of him by now, but we'll give Dubi the benefit of a shortened season. We'll just have to watch closely to see if they have that conversation this season.
How many of ya'll remember Tom Renney commenting as follows on Wade Redden's performance? "It is hard to play with one foot on the gas and the brake at the same time".
For what it is worth, there are few coaches with as much class as Renney.
Okay so lets do the numbers. The last three seasons Redden's point totals have been 38 (Ottawa), 26, and 14. So if he continues on that track he should have 2 points this season. Now we all know points don't always tell the whole story (cue photo of Drury) but remember he was signed as a QB for the power play. So now what, well, they say three is a charm, so maybe this is his year.
Was it Sather that said, Colton Orr was asking too much back then. We'll, lets do the math. Is Orr 4 years at $1 mil/year greater than, equal to, or less than Donald Brashear for 2 years at $1.4 mil/year + Derek Boogaard at 4 years, $1.625 mil/year. (we won't count Shelly's cap hit last season).
Well, at the end of the day, it's only money and entertainment. I think Dolan said that.... ;-)

In his article about the frolov signing in the post today, Brooks says very matter-of-factly that Redden will be waived in camp. hope he knows some5thing we don't
only other possibility is if they loan rozy to khl something like was done with kaspar with the russian league

not sure what the point of this rant is..?? do you suggest we don't banish Redden.. do you think that we should have kept colton orr???i dont see how these things help the rangers.. yes keeping orr would have saved us ....400$k last year and more this year but those are not ammounts that make or break a great team i fail to see how this make any difference.. and Tom Renney was a great guy and a good coach but he lost this team and had to go..no point dwelling on that one.
i really truly hate putting all the attention on what coaches or management have said in the past, and then somehow mesauring the results and drawing conclusion based only on that. Dubinsky has a role, torts has given him every oppurtunity to come through and score goals his icetime was up and the confidence torts has shown in numerous comments show that torts expects this guy to be a good player (30 goal scorer) the rest is up to him. secondly Brashear was brought in to do a job, one that at a low cost was to be done in the same 5 minutes of ice time Orr was raking up . Boogaurd will be a fan favorite this year after his first fight and cap wise sure we might have spent a mil more than you'd like but really honestly does that truly affect the team overall NO it doesnt, because if this team had pulled together and made the playoffs last year they could have just as easily as the montreal canadian and flyers made it to the conference final and we would have all been on the same bandwagon so the product on thie ice makes it worse than it would have been had we went further.. that 400k$ would not even be an after thought.. lastly, Dolan pays the bills, he doesnt coach the team, select the players, he also doesnt hop on he ice to face the opposition every night. the PLAYERS do, and it is up to them to step it up!!!! not Sather or Torts or DOlan or anyone else involved. the PLAYERS NEED TO PLAY and they need to play every day. that's what brings success!!!!
Definitely should have kept Orr for 1 million/4 years. Boogard won't amount to anything.
Im really sick of hearing about Colton Orr not getting resigned. He's not a Ranger anymore, get over it. It's as if you got stood up at prom. I loved Colton Orr when he wore our jersey, but Im over it and moving on.
Also, you have no idea what Boogaard is gonna do this season. No one had huge expectations for Prust or Shelley when they came in last season, and they provided a needed spark, as well as a hardworking fourth line that was our best line at the end of the season. Who says Boogaard can't do the same?

That wasn't directed at you, but everyone who has been crying over Orr's departure for the past two offseasons. Sorry if I sounded like a huge jerk.
Agreed, the players need to play, however after being a manager in a private office I have learned an important lesson. You can't force anyone to do anything they don't want to or have the capacity to do. As in the case with Redden. There was no stipulation on productivity in his contract. He plays, he gets paid, simple as that. I do hope the management has learned lessons from past contracts like Redden's. I wish more contracts were performance based, while I know they have problems too, it is just a thorn in my side when I see Redden take the ice and play the way he plays.
cba only allows performance based (ie bonuses) for guys over 35 and the bonuses are usually very easy to meet - like tieing your skates correctly. also allowed for entry level deals 1st 3 yrs of pros so the chicago guys got bonuses that were legit - things like winning conn smythe.
otherwise they are not allowed and the over 35 is if they signed the contract at 35 or older.
andrew - problem isn't letting orr go. it was signing brashear an older than 35 guy to multi yr deal. that has to count vs the cap in the 2nd yr so this yr they arte paying their fighters 3 mm approx or 2 mm too much.
redden is terrible and never should ahve been signed to a 6 yr deal for that money. 2 or 3 yrs tops and much less money. then he'd already be gone or have only 1 yr left.
dubinsky is not a 30 goal guy, his stats will also be hurt with frolov likely getting major pp time
Gary, it's not so much letting Colton go, but as LIJoe said signing Brash to "replace" him after he just took out our best PK man Betts about a month after he got signed. Slap in the face.
