Avery to Be Placed on Re-Call Waivers at Noon

Steve Zipay at Blue Notes reports Sean Avery will be placed on re-call waivers at noon today.

On what roster move will be made to free up a spot for Avery, Zipay says...

"...the Rangers will either waive or reassign someone or place Erik Reitz (foot) on IR to fit the returning forward."

...i'm starting to get nervous that Avery will be claimed by another team. How could the Penguins or Hurricanes possibly allow Avery to fall in the Rangers lap knowing the spark he provided the club two years ago? If either of those teams have the cap room I could see them claiming Avery just to block him from coming to the Rangers.

I can understand other teams wanting to pick Avery up just so NYR don't get him, but remember... it's still a $2MM cap hit every year for a guy that's gotten himself a terrible reputation over the last few years.

Is any team willing to give themselves cap headaches for a player they either plan to leave in the minors or bring up at the risk of blowing up their locker room chemistry?

It's possible, but not likely, that Avery gets scooped by another team.

Anything can happen. I'm not sure how all the NYR blog pundants are so sure he'll be a Ranger. We'll see.

I believe that the Penguins are too cheap to claim Avery. Besides can you imagine crybaby Crosby and Avery in the same locker room??? Avery just has to say boo and Crosby will go running over to papa Lemieux for support.... And Malkin is quite a sensitive little boy too, remember his break down during the playoffs.
