Zipay is also encouraging any Rangers fans who'd like to see Sundin in a blueshirt to chant "We want Mats" during the game.
Sam Weinman at The Rangers Report also discusses Sundin here.
...if he's going to be in the building the Rangers would have to be pretty stupid not to have a sit down with him. Obviously no matter how much the Rangers want Sundin they're going to have to clear out some cap space.

I wish they had brought Potter up early, if he had proven capable of playing that 3rd d-pairing then Mara or Kalinin could have been moved (or demoted, if we found no takers) to clear up space.
For now, the only real options we have are moving a combination of Prucha, Fritsche, Dawes, and/or demoting Korpikoski, or moving Rozsival and one of the previously mentioned forwards, getting a cheaper Defenceman in return. Or Sundin could sign for the league minimum.
Our options are pretty slim.
Good call on Potter. I don't think the Rangers are going to find too many takers for the players you mentioned. And I think there's an even less chance Sundin takes the league minimum.
What do we chant if we DON'T want to see Old Man Matts on Broadway?
I have checked a few salary websites since posting this, and they all have Kalinin earning $2.1 million this year. For $2.1 million, he is a -15 so far. I really don't think that Potter could do any worse than that in 30 games. If we were to move Kalinin now, we could save a little over 1.3 million on Kalinin the rest of the year (52 games left/82 total games, x2.1 mil), and since Potter would only be owed a little over 300,000 the rest of the season, the total cap savings would be $1 million.
If Kalinin was traded for non-roster assets (or demoted), and a combination of Prucha, Fritsche or Dawes were moved, or Korpikoski sent down, with the excess of 1 million or so of cap space we already have, we would have around 2.5-3 million for the rest of the year.
Not exactly a grand total, but it could be enough for Sundin for half a season.
Great research Byrne. Thanks!!!
Shame about Kalinin—he was a offensive defenseman in Buffalo and their system encouraged D rushing the puck—not sure what kind of system Renny has running the D.
Anyway, if Sundin were to talk business with Rangers management they both would make time specifically for the future of Sundin on the Rangers. He'll be at the Garden if they talk or don't talk. But yeah, if he's there why not shake some hands.
If the Rangers are losing the crowd will chant "We want Mats" Otherwise, the crowd could be indifferent.
