Rangers 3, Thrashers 2, OT

The New York Rangers (19-10-2) defeated the Atlanta Thrashers (9-14-4) by the score of 3-2 in overtime, tonight. For a recap and box score go to newyorkrangers.com.

...while it took overtime (no regulation wins in the Rangers last seven games) to dispatch the lowly Thrashers this was a nice feel good win for a team in desperate need of something positive. Numerous players breaking out of slumps and a much needed two points.

...Renney should keep a tape of all three goals tonight and play it for the team every day to remind them what happens when you go to the net.

...no player on the Rangers team deserved a goal more than Orr did tonight. This guy worked extra hard in the off-season to make himself a better hockey player and he finally got rewarded for it with his first of the season. I was hoping Orr's goal was going to take the pressure off the team and open up the flood gates. But it's just amazing how this team cannot get any type of offensive confidence right now.

...it's always nice when your back-up goaltender can come in and provide you with the same level of goaltending as your starter. Valiquette was outstanding tonight (27 saves) and his glove save in the final minutes kept the game tied allowing Gomez to win it in OT. This was Vali's first win since October 17th a 1-0 win over Toronto.

...man did Gomez need that goal tonight. After going -7 in his last two games and only scoring one goal (an empty netter) since coming off the disabled list he needed something to lift his spirits. And nothing's better than an overtime winner. Well, maybe jacking Kovalchuk in the face.

...i've killed him when he's been bad, so now I've got to praise him when he's good. Redden had an outstanding game tonight, shaking off the effects of a groin injury to chip in with 3 assists and a +3. Redden now has 5 assists in his last 3 games and is a +2. Looks like the day off really helped.

...speaking of someone who needs a day off, add a -2 to Kalinin's wretched plus/minus putting him at -17 on the season. Ouch.

...am I the only one who now feels more confident that this team is going to score short-handed than on the power play?

...another game another bad line change for the Rangers. This one directly leading to Atlanta's first goal. What is going on around here?

...a 7-2 beating would have been nice tonight, but there's always something special about winning a game in overtime and I'm hopeful the Rangers will be able to carry this momentum over to their match-up against the Devils on Friday.

Well, it was nice to win in OT for a change cause this team can't seem to in regulation. And yea. The three goals were simple plays driving to the net. Something that'd been lacking.

Kalinin is awful. Put Potter in instead. Maybe I'll post something on it.

You're up!

Potter has to get a chance on Friday against the Devils. What possible reason could Renney have to start Kalinin over him?

For several games I was all over Redden, although I didn't get to see the game, I'm going to give the veteran until the playoff stretch to start waking up.
