Backman Proving Valuable

John Dellapina of The Daily News reports...

"It wasn't unreasonable to suspect that Backman might be rattled into submission by the pressure of playing at the Garden. But Backman has since proven to be much more like Malik than, say, Sandis Ozolinsh - who had boos raining down on him during his brief Ranger tenure - in his ability to block out the din and push forward. More than that, Backman has emerged over the last few tension-filled games as a poised and confident defenseman whom the Rangers now count on not just to minimize damage but to be a winning player."

...Backman has shown real mental toughness during his time with the Rangers. As I posted a week ago Backman has been on the verge of being booed out of town twice already only to respond with timely goals. He has become a more confident player over the last few weeks and when you sprinkle in some of the offense he is displaying, he's actually been one of our better defenseman lately.

...in his last five games Backman has 1 goal, 4 assists and 9 shots in goal.

...what does this all mean? It means we may never see Marek Malik in a Ranger uniform again. Anyone complaining?

In 10 years, my only memory of Malik will be of the shootout goal vs. Kolzig.
