Thursday's Headlines

Here are today's headlines...

Lynn Zinser at the New York Times writes about Jagr being booed in Pittsburgh..."Jagr, the Rangers’ captain, spent the past week joking that their opponent in the second round of the playoffs was irrelevant, because he is booed pretty much everywhere. But Pittsburgh, where the Rangers are now headed for Game 1 of their second-round series Friday night, seems to boo from deep in its collective heart."

John Dellapina at the Daily News says the Rangers veterans aren't ready to pass the torch to the Penguins youth..."Pardon the Rangers' Cup veterans if they aren't quite ready to exit center stage just yet. Beginning Friday night in Pittsburgh, Jagr, Shanahan, Chris Drury and Scott Gomez will throw their equipment bags full of championship experience against Sid the Kid, Evgeni Malkin and the rest of a young Penguins team that believes its time is now."

At Newsday, Steve Zipay writes about the Staal vs. Staal match-up..."Although the brothers from Thunder Bay, Ontario, spoke after the matchup was finally determined on Tuesday night, their frequent conversations and shared meals of the regular season won't be happening in the Stanley Cup playoffs."

At the Journal News, Sam Weinman reports on the series subplots..."The subplots are everywhere: one of the NHL's most storied franchises against its most marketable star in Sidney Crosby; a future Hall of Famer in Jaromir Jagr returning in the playoffs to the city where he first made his mark; even a set of brothers going head-to-head."

Larry Brooks at the New York Post blows a Jagr quote out of proportion..."With all due respect for [Sidney] Crosby and [Evgeni] Malkin, I don't think they are Mario Lemieux," said Jagr, preparing to go to Pittsburgh, his first NHL home, for tomorrow's night second-round opener between the New York Rangers and Penguins..."I say that with all due respect because the game has changed."

...man I hope Jagr's quote on Crosby and Malkin not being Lemieux doesn't fire those guys up.

its ok because jagr can say whatever he wants, because those guys should be looking up to him.
