In his story about the NHL getting a dream postseason so far, Al Strachan at FoxSports writes...
"For the most part, the teams that remain alive are the ones the league can seriously promote on television, and in the process, draw fans to the sport. The Rangers, of course, are the best of that group.
They bring in the huge New York market. They boast established stars like Jaromir Jagr and Brendan Shanahan. Just as important, they have home-grown American stars like Scott Gomez and Chris Drury. And of course, they have Sean Avery who, like him or hate him, does get noticed. For the NHL, it doesn't get much better than that."
...with the officiating the Rangers see on a nightly basis, you wonder if the NHL agrees with Strachan's sentiments.
...in all seriousness, if you're a hockey fan, I don't care how much you hate the Rangers, you have to root for them to succeed in the playoffs. With the Rangers success comes success to the league. It's no coincidence that the NHL was at its most popular during the 1993-94 season.

Home-grown American stars like Drury and Gomez? Didn't we just sign them last off-season, I think that means that they are not home-grown.
I'd love to watch the Boston-Montreal game tonight but instead Versus is giving us the Philly game. Awful!
My bad, I think we might be getting the Boston-Montreal game.
By 'home-grown' he means American born players.
When any NY sports team does well, the sport as a whole does well.
On that note... LETS GO RANGERS
Yeah I don't think he meant Rangers home grown, I think he meant grown in the US.
