Around the Playoffs

Here's what's going on in the other playoff series...

EASTERN CONFERENCE

(1) Canadiens vs. (8) Bruins - Boston overcame three one-goal deficits Saturday night and won 5-4 on Marco Sturm's goal with 2:37 left. Now the Bruins need just one more win to take a series that they trailed 3-1. Game 7 will be played tonight.

(2) Penguins vs. (7) Senators - Evgeni Malkin and Jarkko Ruutu scored second-period goals, leading Pittsburgh to a 3-1 win over Ottawa last Wednesday night to complete a four-game sweep of their first-round series.

(3) Capitals vs. (6) Flyers - The Capitals jumped to an early lead with just the right mix of brawn and skill, and the Flyers waited too long to respond Saturday in Washington's 3-2 must-win Game 5 victory in the first-round playoff series. The Flyers still hold a 3-2 lead in the series. Game 6 is tonight.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

(1) Red Wings vs. (8) Predators - Nicklas Lidstrom bounced in a short-handed goal over goaltender Dan Ellis in the second period, and the Red Wings closed out their opening series with 3-0 victory over Nashville on Sunday. The Red Wings won the series 4-2.

(2) Sharks vs. (7) Flames - Miikka Kiprusoff made 21 saves, Owen Nolan and Daymond Langkow scored, and the Flames beat the Sharks 2-0 on Sunday night to force a Game 7 Tuesday night.

(3) Wild vs. (6) Avalanche - Theodore and the Colorado Avalanche withstood another onslaught from the relentless Wild for a series-clinching 2-1 win Saturday night. Theodore stopped 34 shots, including a glove save off Kim Johnsson's shot with 21 seconds left and the underdog Avs took the series in six games.

(4) Ducks vs. (5) Stars - Modano's simple score came with 3.3 seconds left Sunday night, the capper in a four-goal third period that gave the Stars a 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks, eliminating the Stanley Cup champions and sending Dallas into the second round for the first time since 2003. The Stars won the series 4-2.
