Allan Maki at GlobeandMail.com, a Canadien news outlet, reports...
"While Avery has played hard wherever he's been, he has a history of not staying in one place long. He lasted only two seasons with Detroit, where he was stuck behind a wealth of forwards. He lasted less than three seasons in Los Angeles, where he eventually fell out of favour with the coaching staff and had to be moved. And his time in New York looks to be running out as well.
Last summer, Avery went to salary arbitration, where he heard what team officials really thought of him. This summer, he's set to become an unrestricted free agent, and unless the Rangers offer him what he wants, $4-million (all currency U.S.) a season, he'll take his skates and insults and play somewhere else."
...the Canadian press' hatred for Avery is on full display in this article. Avery has never been the player he's been in New York for any other team, which is why his former teams had no problem letting him go...If Sather doesn't want a riot outside his office this summer, he'll do the right thing and re-sign Avery.

If Sather doesn't sign him there will be 29 other teams lining up to sign him. Can you imagine if he went to the Flyers, Islanders, Penguins or Devils (well maybe not). We'd have to face him 8 times a year.
Avery is a big part of this team and was probably the best trade Sather has made as Rangers GM.
