Straka Given Credit for Success of 1st Line

In today's New York Post, Jay Greenberg writes about the recent success of the 1st line which Scott Gomez attributes to the play of Martin Straka...

"...'We're not thinking too much anymore,' said Gomez. 'But a guy like Marty adds so much, opens things up for us.

'The guy who should get the credit is Marty, I can't stress that enough.'

Certainly it's easier to stress the role of Straka than it is to talk about historical stresses between the finicky Jagr and his linemates...

... And of course, Straka, uncannily strong along the wall for his 180 pounds, slick, and defensively aware enough to turn his linemates loose to create chances, is a factor he couldn't be while missing 15 games with a broken finger.

'He does all the little things,' said Gomez. 'Let's face it, Jags and I aren't exactly Selke Trophy [best defensive forward] candidates.'..."

...I had already read Gomez' comments regarding Straka before this article came out and I have to agree.

...when this line started the season together you figured it would take some time and then when Straka went down with the finger injury it really set that line back.

...now that the line is together and succeeding they're fun to watch. I can definitely see this line being more successful than last year's line with Nylander centering. Especially with Gomez' superior faceoff skills.
