I'm as annoyed by this situation as anyone, but I think Dubi needs to give in.
The Rangers are using their leverage here to get an advantageous contract for themselves--something they should do more often. Lou Lamoriello does this kind of thing all the time, and the Devils are usually in good cap position. The reason Sather looks so bad right now is because he applies pressure unevenly: overpaying for one player, then squeezing another without explanation. That doesn't mean he should correct his mistakes by making another one.
Dubinsky might be looking at Voros ($1m) or Rismiller ($1m) and thinking to himself that he should earn something similar. He's wrong. Two 40-point seasons for a young player is a great start, but he should keep playing for whatever the Rangers offer until he earns arbitration leverage next year. Having never scored more than 14 goals, he's in no position to play hardball now. By holding out, he's hurting his chances of having a good statistical season this year and a strong arbitration case next year.
Ugh is right! The rangers need to get this deal done. I'm against a one year deal because that puts the ball in Dubinsky's court with him being arbitration available next year. This is bad, very bad.

So I guess it was either Callahan or Dubinsky...
