Day 2 Training Camp Sights

Steve Zipay at Blue Notes reports that Marian Gaborik was held off the ice for the second day with what is believed to be a tweaked groin and out of a grueling 45-lap skate. Gaborik left the training center without speaking to reporters.

...how does this guy have a tweaked groin already? He hasn't participated in anything yet. Wow this guy is like glass. And nice way to endear yourself with the media.

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants reports that the Rangers have brought in veteran defenseman Alexei Semenov, who spent parts of the last two seasons with the Sharks and has also played for the Panthers, on a tryout invitation...

On what he brings to the table Semenov said...

"I'm a big body, I want to play tough defense and help the team; I have a heavy shot," said Semenov.

...just because the Rangers lose one terrible invitee defenseman (McLaren) to injury doesn't mean they have to bring in another. Seventh defenseman at best.

Finally, Gross reports that star rookie defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti struggled to complete his 45-lap endurance skate after going too hard early on...

"I had no legs," said Sanguinetti, who collapsed to the ice after both his second and third set of laps and grimaced through the skate, unable to crossover as he went behind the net and grabbing his thighs. "I blew them out on the first one and felt it on the second one. I thought, 'This isn't good.'"

...just a rookie mistake trying to impress the coach. Learn to pace yourself young man.

Regarding Gaborik...relax.

I'll relax when he's spending more time on the ice than in the trainers room.
