JD Deals With Economy In St. Louis

TSN has a nice piece on how former Rangers goaltender and TV analyst John Davidson is rising to the challenges in St. Louis in the face of a failing economy...

JD, the current President of the St. Louis Blues, had this to say regarding how he attracts fans and sponsorships in the current financial environment...

"We have to respect the reality that it's a tough business world out there," he told TSN. "We have to make our players available to the sponsors and for the business people to know them. Our players in St. Louis have been great - flat out awesome. We mix with our business world, with our youth hockey - we have to sell. That's what we're in the business of doing."

...the current financial mess is certainly making it hard for small to middle market teams to attract fans. Bettman would have been smart to make all teams lower ticket prices this year.

...right now, its almost impossible for a family of four to go to a game. If hockey had made itself a cheap alternative to basketball or a night out on the town, buildings would be filled with non-traditional fans looking for an economically friendly night out.

...hopefully the game would have sold itself to those fans, so that when the economy turned around and ticket prices went back up they'd be willing to shell out those extra dollars to go back and watch a game they never would have been interested in if wasn't for the cheap tickets.
...by the way, would love to see JD come back in some type of executive position with the Rangers.
