Edmonton 3, Rangers 2, SO

The New York Rangers (11-5-2) lost to the Edmonton Oilers (8-6-1) by the score of 3-2 in a shootout. For a full recap and box score go to newyorkrangers.com.

...that's what happens when you sleepwalk through the first period and a half. I give them full marks for coming back and at least getting a point, but the Rangers need to be ready from the opening whistle not the 12 minute mark of the second period.

...you also have to give credit to the Oilers young goalie Deslauriers. The Rangers are usually guilty of making bad goalies look good, but this kid was on tonight and you have to tip your cap.

...one player on the Rangers that was ready from the opening whistle was Ryan Callahan. Despite not scoring I thought he was the best player on the ice for the Rangers tonight (and most other nights for that matter). Renney needs to get him some more minutes on the power play. Not sure who comes out but he's got to be more involved.

...wasn't a big fan of the Voros-Korpikoski-Fritsche line. Not sure why Renney would break up the 'Playstation Line' to pair Voros with two players that haven't scored a point yet this season. Maybe he was trying to get Drury with better linemates. But that line configuration was a bit puzzling.

...speaking of Drury how sick was his tying goal. One hander, out of mid-air. Now that takes skill.

...the Rangers are now 1-3-1 in their last five games.

...off tomorrow then on to 'The Rock' to play the under-manned Devils.

Callahan was the best player tonight. The Play station line hasn't been that good lately, so I like the change. Voros should be playing on a 3rd or 4th line anyway, despite his goal total. Gomez has been bad for a little while. The fans in the blue seats gave him a new nickname tonight, Pesos. Mara has been great all year, I thought the call on him in OT was weak.

Man, boring first period...like watching paint dry...and listening to Joe Mik and Sam Rosen was like *listening* to paint dry. Lundqvist was awesome, again. Nazzy had a good game, too.

new lines..

naslund gomez zherdev
drury dubinsky callahan

fill in the 3rd and 4th lines as you please, but to my knowledge renny hasnt tried this combos and they could work..first line would be quick, second line has some speed but more of a grinding/scoring line

When watching the game tonight I was actually happy when they showed redden walking to the locker room during the 3rd and was pissed when he came back.
REdden and rozival right night might be the worst signings ever...How many years are we stuck with this pairing?

Callahan and Lundqvist were both amazing!

Mara, Staal and Giradi are solid, Kalinin is exactly as advertised..and you know how I feel about the other 2.

Its officially time to worry about our scoring production...not scoring more than 2 goal a game is a big problem...

Pitt is about to catch us in the standings!!!

To add to the Redden thought. We finally saw a real power play quarterback last night. Unfortunately, he was on Edmonton and his name was Sheldon Sourey. That guy has a absolute bomb from the point.

Yeah, I heard about Sheldon Sourey's signing and I thought to myself, "Why don't we have him?"

I'm not particularly upset with Rosival's play but Redden was a captain and all-star and you got young guns like Staal who are just as good if not better. But in Redden's defense (no pun intended) he did save one break-away attempt with a swat of the stick.

Yeah, Gomez hasn't been that great on paper, I guess, but he's still so fast and can go coast to coast no problem. He has the potential to be the best forward quarterback...the question is finding the right guys for him to play with.

Bottom line is they need goals—it's crazy how they get over 30 shots a game (42 last night) and still can't score.

Also, I noticed how they don't drive and crash the net even if they have the opportunity. They clear the neutral zone, get on the attack and pull up and wait for the D or what they think is the right positioning...instead of the quick lateral pass on the rush for a goal.
