Prudential Square Garden

John Branch at The New York Times reports on Ranger fans at "The Rock" last night...

"Rangers fans were vociferous enough to start chants of their own. “Hen-rik! Hen-rik!” followed any series of good saves by Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. When the Rangers’ Brendan Shanahan opened the scoring early in the second period, the cheers were loud enough to sound like a home game."

At Slap Shot Lynn Zinser adds...

"The most bizarre part of Wednesday night’s playoff opener between the Devils and Rangers was trying to figure out what percentage of the Prudential Center crowd was made up of Rangers fans. My guess is 35 percent and it was a loud 35 percent, creating competing chants and all kinds of strange moments in the Rangers’ 4-1 victory."

...its got to be tough hearing chants for the visiting team in your own building. Sure they'll be Devils fans at the Garden, but it won't be anything like last night.

...I agree with Zinser that it was a loud 35%, because by just hearing the crowd on TV I would have thought it was 50-50.

35% Ranger fans, 35% Devil fans and 30% people who got the tickets from someone.

I find it hard to believe that all 35% of the Ranger fans were packed into the areas that the camera picked up. When the Rangers scored, it sure looked like more than half the people were cheering.

Let's Go Rangers. Don't let up. Keep up the great work on the blog.
