Golden Oldies

Lynn Zinser at the New York Times reports on the transition Jaromir Jagr, Brendan Shanahan and Martin Straka have had to make in their games as they've gotten older...

"And they have all found themselves mired in the transition between their high-scoring pasts and the Rangers’ low-scoring present. It is an uncomfortable spot for them, with unrestricted free agency calling at season’s end, with decisions waiting on how they will spend the final years of their careers."

...Jagr has some real interesting quotes in this article such as "Maybe we are playing too defensively," and "We are playing too safe." Doesn't sound like he's too happy with Renney's defensive system.

...I think the Jagr critics forget that Renney has installed this defense first system which has cut tremendously into Jagr's output. And to Jagr's credit, despite the above two quotes, he hasn't complained about the system which, in my opinion, will keep him from an 84-point season would have triggered an automatic option year on his contract.
