No Cap Room for Shanahan

Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports...

"And what with people like Pat Rissmiller and Aaron Voros in at $1M per and Fred Sjostrom sitting with a qualifier of over $800,000 - management is trying to sign him to a two-year contract in the neighborhood of $650,000 per - the Rangers seem to have no room for Brendan Shanahan, regardless of what Glen Sather repeatedly has said about the winger remaining in the equation."

...its not that I don't like Shanahan or think he can't be a great presence in the locker room. I just don't think he fits in with the new much sleeker Rangers. Could you imagine Shanahan on a line with Gomez and Zherdev? By the time Shanahan finally entered the offense zone on a rush, his line would have already scored, celebrated and sat back down on the bench.

...having said that I do agree with what John Dellapina said yesterday (See here) that Shanahan deserves to know what the Rangers plans are for him immediately. He has definitely earned that.
