Free Agent Updates

I'll be posting updates below with the most recent on top...

- New York Islanders sign defenceman Mark Streit to a five-year contract worth $20.5 million - I hate giving the Islanders compliments, but that's a nice pick-up.

- Minnesota sign forward Craig Weller to a two-year contract worth $600,000 a season

- Tampa Bay Lightning sign forward David Koci to a one-year, two-way deal worth $525,000 in the NHL, $100,000 in the minors

- New York Rangers sign UFA defenceman Wade Redden to a six-year contract worth $39 million - $ 11.1 million for Redden & Rozsival leaves us with about 11 million for our other holes.

- New Jersey Devils sign UFA forward Bobby Holik to a one-year contract worth $2.5 million

- Toronto Maple Leafs sign UFA forward Niklas Hagman to a four-year contract worth $12 million

- New York Rangers re-sign UFA defenceman Michael Rozsival to a four-year deal worth $20 million

- Vancouver Canucks sign UFA forward Darcy Hordichuk to a two-year deal

- Philadelphia Flyers sign UFA forward Nate Raduns to a one-year deal

- Philadelphia Flyers sign UFA forward Glen Metropolit to a two-year deal

- New Jersey signs UFA forward Brian Rolston to a four year deal worth $20-million - That's just rubbing salt in the wound as we've sign Voros and Rissmiller, while the Devils sign Rolston. Sweet!!!

- New York Rangers sign UFA forward Patrick Rissmiller to an undisclosed deal - Double Who?

- Philadelphia signs UFA defenceman Ossi Vaananen to a one year deal worth $1-million

- Columbus signs UFA defenceman Mike Commodore to a 5 year deal worth $18.75-million

- Dellapine at the Blueshirts Blog reports Rangers and Rozsival are close to a deal.

- Chicago signs UFA defenceman Brian Campbell to an 8 year deal worth $56.8-million - And the first whale is gone

- Buffalo signs UFA goaltender Patrick Lalime to a 2 year deal worth $2-million

- Ottawa signs UFA goaltender Alex Auld to a 2 year deal worth $1-million

- Dellapina at the Blueshirts Blog says, "the Rangers are in talks with the agent for D Mark Streit, as expected."

- Adam Portzline at the Columbus Dispatch says, "Earlier today, an agent told me that the price tag for Brian Campbell is out of control. 'I'm hearing that any offer under $60 million is getting laughed at,' he said." Crazy

- Tampa Bay signs UFA goaltender Olaf Kolzig to a 1 year deal worth $1.5-million (plus bonuses). Man Tampa must have had a lot of cap room.

- Colorado signs UFA forward Darcy Tucker to a 2 year deal worth $4.5-million - There goes our replacement for Avery. Maybe this means Avery will be back.

- Vancouver signs RFA forward David Backes to an offer sheet, 3 years $7.5-million. St. Louis has seven days to match or accept a 2nd round draft pick as compensation.

- Dellapina at the Blueshirts Blog says, "Jaromir Jagr is playing coy about reports that he has an offer on the table from his old team, the Pittsburgh Penguins." Dellapina also reports that the Rangers are pursuing both Mats Sundin and Markus Naslund.

- Chicago signs UFA goaltender Cristobal Huet (undisclosed)

- Florida signs UFA forward Cory Stillman to a 3 year deal worth $10.6-million

- NY Rangers sign UFA forward Aaron Voros (undisclosed) - Who?

- Pittsburgh signs UFA forward Eric Godard (undisclosed)

- Tampa Bay signs UFA forward Adam Hall to a 3 year deal worth $1.8-million (How can Tampa afford all these moves?)

- Sportsnet. ca reports that the Pittsburgh Penguins have offered a contract to free agent forward and former team captain, Jaromir Jagr.The Penguins are one of several NHL teams in pursuit of the former NHL MVP. Rob Rossi at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review says the discussions have been described as “very preliminary.”

- Toronto signs UFA defenceman Jeff Finger to a 4 year deal worth $3.5-million a season

- Phoenix signs UFA forward Todd Fedoruk to a 3 year deal (undisclosed)

- Montreal re-signs RFA forward Andrei Kostitsyn to a 3 year deal worth $3.25-million a season

- Detroit signs UFA G Ty Conklin to a 1 year deal worth $750,000

- Zipay says Curtis Joseph back to Toronto for 1 year.

- Colorado signs UFA G Andrew Raycroft to a 1 year deal (undisclosed)

- Washington signs UFA G Jose Theodore to a 2 year deal (undisclosed)

- Phoenix signs UFA D Kurt Sauer to a 4 year deal (undisclosed)

- Dellapina at The Blueshirts Blog says "I just got an e-mail reply from NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly confirming the report yesterday from TSN’s Bob McKenzie that the performance bonus cushion is not available this year." So if the Rangers decided to offer Jagr a contract, with bonuses, that got him to his desired goal of exceeding the $7 million per that Scott Gomez and Chris Drury are making, they must have the room to pay him this season.

- Steve Zipay at Blue Notes says "It looks like the top players are still sorting through offers from multiple teams. He also notes that there's a possibility the NHL's outdoor game will be played at Yankee Stadium after all.

- Sources tell TSN as many as four teams have tabled offers for Mats Sundin, including one undisclosed team that has offered a whopping $10 million per year on a multi-year contract. Sam Weinman at Rangers Report says Vancouver offered the $10 million per year deal.

- Pittsburgh Penguins re-sign UFA D Mark Eaton to a 2 year deal worth $2-million

- Minnesota Wild sign UFA forward Andrew Brunette (undisclosed).

- Vancouver signs RFA forward Kyle Wellwood to a 1 year deal worth $997,500.

- According to Sam Weinman at the Rangers Report, "Rumblings, unsubstantiated as of yet, that Sean Avery is definitely out the door and a signing elsewhere is imminent."

- John Dellapina at The Blueshirts Blog reports that Jagr, Avery and Rozsival all want to return to the Rangers and would give Sather the chance to match any offer they receive.

- The Tampa Bay Lightning signed unrestricted free agent forward Radim Vrbata to a $9-million, three-year contract Tuesday.

- The Nashville Predators have traded defenceman Marek Zidlicky to the Minnesota Wild for prospect Ryan Jones and a second round pick.

- Boston signs UFA forward Blake Wheeler to an entry-level contract
