Zipay: Get Sharp

Steve Zipay at Blue Notes says the Rangers need to approach the Blackhawks about a trade for center Patrick Sharp...

"Let's speculate here. The Blueshirts could still use a proven center who can also play wing.

Sharp is 6-1, 200, and 27, from Thunder Bay like the Staals. He can skate and has good hands. 26 goals in 61 games and a bunch of points in the playoffs. 36 goals the year before.

Sharp is pricey, due $3.9 million for each of the next three years."

Zipay, who says the Blackhawks wouldn't want a big salary in return (ie Roszival), thinks a package of Lauri Korpikoski, Bobby Sanguinetti and a pick could get it done.

...as Zipay notes, if the Rangers can get Sharp, Sather would have to get real creative to keep the team under the cap.

...potential 30 goal scorer, I'm game.

Really Zipay? A former 1st rounder with just 1 full NHL season under his belt, a top defense prospect, and a pick for for a guy who has really only had one a half good NHL seasons? Before netting 36 goals and 26 assists in 07/08 (62 total points, not bad at all, but not great by any means), he had just 35 points in 80 games. Last season, he had some injuries and had 44 points in 61 games.

Sharp is the definition of a PRETENDER. He was an average hockey player for his career until two prodigies named Toews and Kane came to Chicago. It is no coincidence that his career suddenly took off when those two came to the Blackhawks. At $3.9 million, he is grossly overpaid. And Zipay wants to give them Korpedo, Sanguinetti (who would both make pennies this season) and a pick?

F*** no.
