Zherdev, Rangers Fueding?

Pierre LeBrun at ESPN.com notes these two very different accounts of negotiations between the Rangers and Nikolai Zherdev...

From Zhedev's agent...

"We were hoping that New York wanted to negotiate with us," Zherdev's agent, Rolland Hedges, told ESPN.com on Wednesday night. "All we've had is a qualifying offer. It left us no alternative than to file for arbitration."

Glen Sather responded on Thursday saying through a spokesman that in fact both sides have had "several discussions" with the Zherdev camp, but "we're now going through the arbitration process after he elected to file last week."

An hour later, the Rangers signed Ales Kotalik.

...not a good way to get a contract with a team. Loved your enthusiasm Zherdev, but I think we've seen the end of you in a Rangers uniform.

Loved your enthusiasm? What? Are we talking about the same guy. The guy who disappeared in the play-offs. The guy that avoided going into the corners and all physical contact. Zherdev should go back to Russia and get his shine box. And his agent should lay off the jungle juice.

C'mon his goal celebrations were great. Granted I didn't see many of them after February, but they were great nonetheless.
