So Who Are the Alternate Captains?

Rob Cristino at Examiner.com wonders just that and thinks Marian Gaborik will be first on the list as well as two others...

"Aside from Gaborik, the next likely recipient of the “A” would be Brandon Dubinsky. Putting Dubinsky ahead of Ryan Callahan is a tough move to make, as I believe Callahan is the better skater and overall player, but when it comes to vocal leadership, I see Dubinsky with the slight edge."

...for me, I'd love to see Dubinsky and Callahan get the "A"s. I think they deserve them and it shows a commitment to building from within.

...this is the first of what should be about 100 articles on this subject. What do you guys think?

I could see the Rangers signing Shanny. He'd be an "A" for sure. Maybe Girardi. I like Callahan as an "A".

i agree with you 100% in that i'd like to see cally and dubi get the A's.... i don't want to see gaborik just come onto the team and put on the A...

Staal and Dubinsky

Didn't like Nasland getting the A in his first year, likewise I don't like Gaborik getting it. Dooby and Cally should be locks for the efforts last year down the stretch. It seems everygame you heard Joe and Sam saying something about their hardwork.

Gaborik has been an Alternate captain for a few years now,,,prolly for a reason.."If" they sign Shanny that's a no brainer that he would be one..Callahan isn't vocal enough, although neither was Naslund..In my opinion I would say Dubinsky and Gaborik..Gaborik by default,I do however like the Staal idea, but maybe in 2 more years..And both only because they don't give them to goaltenders..

Callahan gives 100% everygame. He may not be as vocal, but just his enthusiasm shows good leadership.

I too thing Gaborik should have to earn the A....

This is going to be unpopular, but I think Rozsival is going to get one; possibly Redden as well. Both are very experienced veterans. I think a "vote of confidence" in the form of an "A" on his sweater might just boost Redden's game.

Also, bpette- where the Shanahan play? There is no spot for him. If we manage to somehow bring back Zherdev, there wouldn't even be a spot for Lisin then. I thought we got all this Shanahan business out of our systems last year...

While I agree that Dubinsky, Staal, Callahan and Girardi are all good candidates, all are very young and relatively inexperienced. Why give it to one of them too soon?

I think Rozsival and Gaborik get the nod.

What about Avery? I know that sounds nuts, but with his loud mouth, maybe the Rangers could get pumped for their games. And listening to all the commentators say how the Rangers have a better record with him in the line-up, it could be a good idea.

That said, I would love to see Callahan and Dubs get it this year.
