Sather Cleaning Up Mess

Arthur Staple at Newsday says Glen Sather is just about finished cleaning up his own mess...

"In years gone by, an active summer like this has meant false hopes for fans because big names with big contracts have been coming in, talking about a fresh start and a new era for the Rangers, who are owned by Cablevision, which also owns Newsday.

This time it's a real fresh start. More than a dozen new faces in five months, and some of them were even cost-effective additions."

...what do you guys think? Has Sather done a sufficient job cleaning up his mess?

definitely not.

im getting pretty tired of people praising Sather for his offseason moves, as if it even remotely addresses the sad state he put us into.

He was saddled with 4 outrageous, nonsensical contracts, Gomez, Drury, Redden and Roszival. He basically got rid of the best one of those players and replaced him with Gaborik, who can be great, has injury problems, and is obviously engimatic.

He is basically being asked to come here and score ALL of the Ranger goals this season, which only Ovechkin is capable of.

We are still saddled with Drury, who has proven to be nearly useless in two full seasons, Roszival, who i think is good, but being paired with Redden is destroying him, and Redden himself, the AHL level 33 year old that is making 7+ million a year.

He then rid the rangers of useless players he picked up last year like Rissmiller and Fritsche and replaced them with more useless players like Boyle.

Kotalik instead of Zherdev? eh, big deal.

He swapped Korpiskoski for Lisin, another NON move.

Then there was the inexplicable signing of Brashear, the way older, way reviled goon, for MORE money than Colton Orr would have taken.

So no, he has done almost nothing to undo what he did.

HELL NO! Dumping Redden would be a good start. And what about the PK (which was the ONLY reason they even made the playoffs)? He lets Betts and Sjostrom walk. Then he lets Orr (a fan favorite) walk and then he signs Brashear for more money, which is a cold smack in the face to Fans. Sather has cleaned up NOTHING! He has just made a different mess. You watch... Gabborik wont do a thing (in True Rangers tradition), that is if he can manage to stay healthy.

I agree with the other commentors. He has only just begun to address the mess he's made. The only way to clean anything up is to somehow get rid of the plethora of terrible contracts he's signed.

I'm still looking at a mess. Personally I don't even understand what Sather is trying to say in this quote - He says basically, 'this time it's going to be different' after saying how empty this promise has been every time this kind of restructuring has failed in the past. The core problems the Rangers have still exist. No real leader no galvanizing force on the ice no offense to speak of and a defense that collapses every other game. If not for Henrik we end up out of the playoffs. My heart is already breaking and I know I'll be watching every game because i can't help my self!

I love this team. Fire Sather, Hire Messier

This mess will not be cleaned up until the Rangers rid themselves of Redden and his cap killing contract
