Shanahan to Islanders?

Stan Fischler at MSG.com says Brendan Shanahan signing with the Islanders could be a possibility...

...there are other possibilities, such as an offer from Long Island.

This point is wisely raised by my TSN buddy in Toronto, Kevin Gibson.

"The Rangers have less Cap room," says Gibson, "and the Islanders have a lot more. If, as Shanny says, he plans on staying in the New York area, Brendan could sign with the Islanders."

...it does make sense. Especially if Shanahan is committed to staying in New York.

...Snow would be out of his mind not to make an offer if talks break off with the Rangers.

This makes no sense. The Icelanders want to go with youth, which is why they fired Nolan.....

2nd, if SHanny plays, Im sure it will be for a contender.

Having Guerin, Weight, Sillinger, Sutton, Streit and Witt doesn't sound like a youth movement to me.

And Shanahan has already won during his career. If his family is comfortable in New York I think he would seriously consider an offer from the Islanders.

No way I could see this happening. The Islanders don't need any more aging players as NYRFAN pointed out. And I don't care how much he loves NY I think Shanny would retire before putting on that hideous orange Islander jersey.

Who knows, be we've all read he wants to stay in the NY area...what about Boston? He has a house out there.
