Shanahan Still On Unemployment Line

Wes Goldstein at CBSSportsline looks at veteran players who are still out of work, including Brendan Shanahan...

Brendan Shanahan: The future Hall of Famer is coming off a respectable season with the Rangers that earned him $5 million, but he's 39 and no longer an impact player. Shanahan wants to return to New York, even if it means taking a substantial pay cut, but the Rangers have had other priorities over the summer. The veteran has had other suitors, notably the St. Louis Blues who would pay him more than New York would, but so far Shanahan seems to be clinging to the hope he can still work out something with the Rangers.

...still haven't changed my feelings on Shanahan. Thanks but no thanks.

Bring back Shanny. he plays on the penalty kill, he scores on the power play, he is physical and would be the best leader we have in the locker (no offense to drury or gomez)

If i had to choose between prucha or shanny I take Shanny!!!

He should only play a handful of games during the regular season or only the PP and PK.

He's slow and is more often than not at least three strides behind the play. Although, he has an awesome shot, knows the game and provides every announcer's favorite word "leadership."

lets not forget the last month or so of the season and the playoffs shanny was dealing with a knee injury...he is not as fast as the other forwards but he is not malik either....

I think by bringing up the knee injury you're putting a hole in your argument. It shows he's old and injury prone. We don't need an aging broken down veteran on this team.

nyrfan: I understand. As much as of a Shanny fan I am (go Whalers and Wings!) he is just a little too old for this team. Re: Back to my argument of him being on the PK and PP and playoff stretch...

a knee on knee collision has nothing to do with age...just ask callahan...

He still played in 73 games and haad the 2nd most goals on the team

Oh, yeah, that was from a knee-on-knee? Damn, good memory.
