We Don't Need No Stinkin' Home Ice

Today the New York Rangers (42-27-13) were defeated by the New Jersey Devils (46-29-7) by a score of 3-2 in a shootout. For a full recap go to Yahoo! Sports.

...while getting home ice would have been nice, I don't think it really matters all that much against the Devils. I'm sorry to any Devils fan who reads this but, you guys aren't that great of fans. There will be at least 30% Ranger fans at every playoff game at "The Pebble" and that 30% will drown out the 70% of Devils fans. So to me not that big a deal.

...to tell you the truth, I'm almost happy we lost today. The Devils will try to tell us that it was a big win for their psyche today. BS. The Devils would have used the season sweep as a rallying cry in the playoffs and been determined to get revenge. Now with a Devils win, all the Rangers did was win the season series. I hope the Rangers were watching the Devils celebrating (a little bit to much in my opinion) after the game and use that to motivate them in this series.

...to the game, I was happy with the comeback ability by the Rangers today. The Devils came out like they wanted it more and it looked like the Rangers realized that they need to pick up their game if they want to beat the Devils in the playoffs.

...I couldn't be more excited with Jagr scoring another goal. His late season surge gives me lots of hope that he will carry this team in the playoffs. Jagr’s goal also extended his NHL-record for consecutive 25-goal seasons to 17.

...Malik pretty much clinched sitting on the bench for the entire playoffs with an awful game. Which is great news for Ranger fans.

...except for the second goal, Lundqvist looks locked-in for the playoffs.

...should be a great series.

It cuts both ways. I was able to buy a lower bowl ticket 2 hours before the first faceoff for Game 4 @ MSG in 2006 when the Devils swept the Rangers. The Garden was about 70/30 and the 30% were pretty noisy. Frankly, there were only two times when the Rangers fans were actually into the game and loud: the first 5 minutes and the standing O after the last whistle. Not saying it will be like that this year, but that's how things have been. Looking forward to Wednesday.
