And that GM Glen Sather accompanied the Rangers to Dallas for tonight's game and is expected to speak to Stars' co-GM Les Jackson today about reacquiring Avery.
Brooks also notes the Rangers would be looking to claim Avery on re-entry waivers meaning they would be responsible for $1,937,500 in salary and cap charges for the next three seasons, and the pro-rated percentage this year from the date Avery would join the team.
Andrew Gross at The Bergen Record also reports on a league source saying that there’s been increased chatter that the Rangers will look to re-acquire Avery.
...i was initially against the re-acquisition of Avery as the Rangers decided to go in another direction and I didn't think they should be looking in the rearview window. But this team obviously needs something. Anything. And if they can get Avery at half his salary, why not?
...and I better not hear any grumbling from current Rangers because if they were playing well there would be no reason for bringing Avery back.

aves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes bring him back i freakin love him!
Not sure if this is a good idea. I know he provides spark and all that, but team chemistry could take a beating. Dru and Valley said somethings about Avery leaving that I'm sure Avery was pissed about...
I'd rather have bad chemistry and good hockey than good chemstry and bad hockey.
yes NYRFan i agree. Forget the lockerroom, they might be tight, but not on the ice.
Who cares if these millionaires "don't get along" in a locker room. If they're on the ice kicking ass because Avery is stirring the pot, bring him back.
This team needs a character player. There are already goal scorers on the team but they're just not scoring...Avery is like Zherdev...every shift there is something exciting to watch.
Hell yea Jack!
Dallas Stars fans, let's all yell it together: "Enjoy!"
We would need to loose some salary, not so much for this year, but for next year and the years after that. Even at 2 million (which is a bargain, considering we offered him over 3mil), we would still be further handcuffing ourselves salary cap-wise. We will need money for raises to Zherdev, Dubinsky and Staal (and I believe Girardi too? He signed a 2 year contract last year, if my memory serves me correctly) in the near future.
