Eklund: With Each Passing Loss the Possiblity of Rangers Acquiring Lecavalier Grows Larger

Eklund at HockeyBuzz reports...

"The Rangers are a desperate hockey team right now and they have had talks with the Lightning about Lecavalier. There is NO doubt about that. I have it from 4 solid sources that Vinny to NY has been discussed. The major player in that deal would have to be Staal, but of course the

Rangers would have to move money around as well...I am told that Prucha to Pittsburgh or Edmonton, and Rozsival to Dallas are possibilities. Those deals could happen, but the determining factor would be Marc Staal to start...But Dubinsky, Girardi, and some top picks will be included I am told.

With each passing loss I am told the possibility grows larger."

...wow Eklund for once acknowledges that there's a salary cap and that the Rangers would have to move around money to make a move. Is he getting legit on us?

...to the rumor. Which we all know coming from Eklund isn't true. But still fun to look at. Man it would be tough to lose Staal, Dubinsky and Girardi, but this team needs a super star and that's what Lecavalier is. Could we absorb loosing three of our six defensemen (including Rozsival) this year? Probably not. But this team isn't going anywhere this year anyway. Bring up Potter, Fahey and Sanguinetti and get them some experience for next year. Then maybe move Drury or Gomez in the off-season and build the team around Lecavalier. Sound good?

Losing Staal would be tough, I would rather add something and add Sanguinetti instead of just Staal. With Dubinsky and Girardi added too, I might have to pass. Those are 3 solid, solid players with tremendous upside. I feel like this would kill us depth wise, and would make us look like Tampa this year, with a few solid players and crap to fill out the rest of the roster. Those 3 players are 24, 22 and 22. Sorry, Lecavalier is great, but moving those 3 players, who will probably be the foundation of the team for many years to come, is too much.

For Staal and Dubinsky, etc.? No way.

IF we were going to pick up Lecavalier and his high-cost, insanely long-term contract (10 seasons?) we'd have to send one of our salary mistakes back in the other direction. Gomez, Drury or Redden are an absolute MUST, or we'd just be compounding our already-pathetically bad cap situation.

With all due respect I really do enjoy reading your blog except when you repeat Eklund nonsense.

Eklund is a fraud who has been repeatedly exposed for the things he has done.

If you want to use his stuff then show exactly why his stuff is stupid.

You do good work so stick with what makes you worth reading and leave the Eklund stuff where it belongs in the sewer.
