With the NHL trade deadline approaching, The Fourth Period has put together a list of the top 25 names rumored to be available and has linked the Rangers to Leafs D Tomas Kaberle and Thrashers D Niclas Havelid.
Kaberle has 6 goals, 26 assists and is a -12 while having three years left on his contract at $4.25 million per year. He's currently on the IR with a broken hand.
Havelid, who is in the last year of his contract which pays him $2.7 million this year, has 1 goal, 10 assists and is a +4.
...we all know the Rangers cap situation, so unless Toronto or Atlanta is willing to take back Redden or Rozsival neither one of these are happening. Not that I want either of these guys anyway. I would have been in for Kaberle maybe five years ago but his numbers are declining worse than Redden's. Unfortunately, that probably means Sather is interested.

I think that Kaberle decline in production may be due to a Toronto team that has gone from perennial playoff contender to the bottom of the league the last few years. When Dominic Moore is one of your top players, you know you are not a good team.
Personally, I would much rather have Kaberle on the blueline than Rozsival, even if it took another solid player/prospect/pick going to Toronto. Rozsival is a number 4 defenceman pretending to be a top 2. Kaberle is the real deal, a top Dman, who is not afraid to shoot. He is not even having a bad season at all, 30 points in 49 games...that should put him around 50 points, which is below his personal standard, but Toronto is having a down year, as we all know.
Zero interest in Havelid, unless Kalinin is going the other way.
