The New York Rangers (27-15-4) defeated the Chicago Blackhawks (24-10-8) by the score of 3-2 in overtime, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports.
...that's as sweet a victory as you're ever going to see. Not only do the Rangers defeat a Blackhawks team that's only lost once in regulation in that building while playing with just five defensemen, they overcome one of the most embarrassing refereeing performances on record. I could keep going on about the refs but why bother.
...in the past I've been very critical of Tom Renney's calm demeanor towards the referees, but I've got to give him all the credit in the world for keeping his and his players cool tonight as any outbursts would have led to further penalties and probably an L tonight. Great job Tom.
...speaking of great jobs, if anyone didn't think the Rangers had the #1 penalty kill before the game, they do now. Any Ranger who even played a second on the penalty kill tonight deserves the day off tomorrow.
...now that's the Chris Drury I thought we were getting when we signed him last year. Clutch goals, hard working on the power play and outstanding leadership by never once losing his cool (except for when he broke his stick after Callahan's late third period penalty. Hey who wouldn't have?) during the parade to the penalty box.
...oh yeah that guy in net, what's his name again, he was pretty good tonight too.
...hope Girardi is alright or we might see an NHL debut for Bobby Sanguinetti Sunday afternoon.
...off tomorrow then the Sunday Afternoon Game of the Week on NBC against the Penguins trying to pick up nine out of 10 points on this road trip.

Are you kidding me? 5 5 on 3's. Being calm tonight really helped. Further penalties? You mean like the 10 min misconduct they gave to Staal? Give me a break. You are a clown!
And I'm actually friends with bpette. Hate to think what the rest of you feel about that comment.
I am a little confused....all NYRfan talks about is how Renney needs to yell at the refs....which is what I thought he did las night....especially when he opened the door to the bench and was screaming at the refs after the blackhawks scored the tying goal....and today your comment is on how calm he was?
please explain if you can, were you praising him on not gettting a bench minor?
I cant believe I am going to say this, but the PP actually looked good, I liked the movement last night, D-men switching sides, good puck movement....nice job, great W
I'd love to know why this game wasn't on Versus. NHL marketing FTL.
Jack I was thinking the samething. Why isnt this game nationally televised? Why is MSG airing the Knicks v Wizards and putting an Original six matchup on MSG 2?
All that being said, due to the awful officiating, I am happy it wasnt on nationally, it would have set hockey back even further.
I just felt last night with those particular refs, who were obviously calling everything, if Renney would have completely lost it they would have hit him with a bench minor or possible a double bench minor.
Plus if the players see their coach losing it on the refs they might feel it's ok to take liberties as well. Which would only distract them from getting the job done.
Last night was an odd scene and Renney keeping his cool under those circumstances was the best thing to do.
Actually after the 5th 5 on 3 Renney finally started to show some emotion, nearly running onto the ice. Which paid off, after that the Rangers got the next 2 power plays including the one in OT. So if you wanna give Renney credit it should be for that, not his calm demanor.
And the last thing I care about is what the rest of these people think about my comment. You clown!
