Free Agent Hits & Misses Since Lockout

Wes Goldstein at CBS Sports takes a look at the free agent hits and misses since the lockout.
The Rangers have a hit with Gaborik and two misses with Redden and Gomez.

...could add Drury and Rozsival to the misses as well.

(another emotional post hahahha)

A Question ....how many more times do we have to talk aout the busts we have had in New York.. I mean common.. GOmez and Drury were fresh off GREAT seasons Gabby was a risk (and by the way most people were knocking Sather like hell last year about the Gabby deal) these guys need to play for their money ... Redden and Rozy make too much YES INDEED we all know this and have for a long time but they are truly not the only ones around the league that make a ton of unwarranted money...this constant negativity is really tiresome for fans and Im sure the players are kinda tired of hearing it as well.. what alwasy gets lost in the woodwork is the small deasl that Sather made that have turned out to be great bargains 1: Vinny Praspaol 58 pts for 1.1mil!!! resigned at 1 mil.. christiensen claimed off waivers ...the avery move (im looking for him to have a bounce back year) bring in Marty Biron for less than a Mil when Auld is making a million and Hedbegrg 1.5 mil..!!! also if you think back to the trades that sather has made that get forgotten the guy deserves credit.. 1: Jagr for ANSON CARTER!!! 2: Pavel Bure for ...Igor Ulanov and not sure who else.. I mean common these are monster deals !!! Gomez deal last year was also huge ..especially if McDOnough works out >> getting Kotalik and Higgins off the books HUGE!!!! comon start looking on the bright side enought with the negativity..!!!

I don't know about Rozy as a complete FA bust. If you go back and look at his numbers when he was signed, and look at the numbers of other dmen who signed for similar money at the time, the contract was pretty fair. UFA contracts are always inflated. Rozy is sometimes inconsistent and has a tendency to make mistakes at very inopportune times, but he's also shown long stretches of strong play. He was a horse in the Buffalo series a few years back (when Drury killed us), great in the7-game Caps series, and he was pretty solid for the second half last season. Considering how bad the Rangers team defense is, his numbers are not terrible. In his five years as a Ranger, he's been a plus-player in every season except one and put up anywhere between 25-40 points. On this team, that's pretty damn good.

The worst part of Rozy's contract is that it's part of a group of other questionable contracts. He's probably 25-30% overpaid, which I'd reckon is about average for UFA's in his age group. But Redden is about 300% overpaid. Drury probably 250%. A lot of teams have UFA players they are overpaying for by 20-30%. The Rangers, unfortunately, seem to specialize in overpaying by multiples of a hundred and that reputation puts Rozy in a harsher light--I think sometimes unfairly.

I love how Gomez is on that list and not Drury. Gomez and Drury got the same contract basically. Drury has done nothing for us. I would be embarrassed beyond belief if I were him. At least Gomez put some points up. I wonder why we were able to trade Gomez and Drury???

drury did have 20-25 goals his 1st 2 yrs plus killed peanlties blocked shots etc. so lets see where his 4th yr goes before we kill him. and we couldn't trade him - full no movement. plus gomez now has 4 yrs remaining while drury has 2. so its not as cut and dried as some think
